A Kenyan police officer serving in Haiti under the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) has died after sustaining gunshot wounds in an attack by suspected gang members. The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed the officer’s death in a press statement issued on February 24, 2025.

The incident took place on February 23, 2025, while the security team was on patrol. “The security team came under fire from suspected gang members. The officer sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries,” the statement read.

The NPS has notified the family of the fallen officer and expressed its deep sympathies. “The Service conveys its deepest sympathies to family and friends of the fallen police officer and assures them of our unwavering support during this trying period,” the statement added.

The Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) was deployed to collaborate with the Haiti National Police (HNP) to help restore peace and stability in the Caribbean nation, which has been grappling with widespread violence. Despite the tragic loss, the NPS commended the officers serving in Haiti for their dedication to the mission’s objectives.
