Key suspect in blogger Khajira’s assault apprehended at border

One of the prime suspects in the September abduction and assault of well-known Kenyan blogger Bruce Khajira, also called “Chawa-001,” has been captured, ending a weeks-long manhunt. The suspect, identified as Omar Ali Mohamed and known by the alias “Nyanya,” was detained by authorities at the Lunga Lunga border while attempting to escape into Tanzania.

Omar Ali had reportedly managed to evade law enforcement for nearly two months, until he was apprehended in a joint operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Immigration Department. His capture is the result of an intensive search effort, as detectives monitored his movements and communication, leading them to intercept him at the border.

DCI detectives reportedly linked Omar Ali to the crime through forensic evidence connecting him to key locations associated with the abduction. Investigators found his communication records showed contact with other suspects before, during, and after the assault, solidifying his involvement.

One of the critical pieces of evidence in the case is a grey Nissan Note, registration KDQ 394C, allegedly hired by Omar Ali on August 20. The vehicle, rented under his alias, was returned the same evening as the incident. Authorities believe this car was used to transport Khajira from his residence to a construction site in Bonje, where he was reportedly assaulted, before ultimately abandoning him in Mwakirunge. The vehicle has since been seized as evidence.

With Omar Ali now in custody, detectives are actively pursuing other suspects who remain at large. The DCI has issued a warning to those involved, urging them to turn themselves in at the nearest police station.

“We will hold everyone accountable, regardless of their status,” a DCI spokesperson emphasized, underscoring the commitment to justice in this high-profile case. The investigation is ongoing, as authorities work to bring all individuals involved to justice.
