Jumia, an e-commerce platform, has opened a new integrated warehousing and logistics network facility in Nairobi to improve the shopping experience for customers by slashing prices and delivery times.

According to Jumia, the new facility would revolutionize its logistics operations by offering more storage space to scale up warehouse operations and improved business management as a result of the convergence of numerous services offering more products across different categories ensuring fast deliveries to consumers

Due to its close proximity to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and quicker access to the Central Business District (CBD) via the Nairobi Expressway, the facility along Mombasa Road would guarantee speedier product delivery. The integrated facility provides personnel with better working circumstances, including a better workspace and an accessible location.

Through the new 11,000-square-metre integrated facility, Jumia also hopes to modernize the Jumia Express operations. Jumia Express is a service provided by the online marketplace where vendors store their products in Jumia warehouses to ensure faster delivery. This service also includes next-day delivery for orders in Nairobi and the surrounding areas, no out-of-stock cancellations, and the highest standards of quality storage.

Jumia in collaboration with instant delivery service Zipline, recently launched the first commercial drone delivery service on the continent offering delivery of products across Ghana. The collaboration was aimed at integrating Zipline’s automated, on-demand delivery system with Jumia’s existing distribution network to enable customers to receive instant, on-demand delivery of exactly the products they want, exactly when they want them and from the comfort of their homes.

The logistics network for Jumia’s 11-country market consists of more than 30 warehouses and 3,000 drop-off and pick-up locations. 2020 saw Jumia make the announcement that third parties wishing to use the network, technology, and expertise for last-mile deliveries throughout its 11 countries in Africa would now have access to its logistics business.
