A prolonged heavy downpour, spanning from Sunday night into Monday morning, inundated various parts of the city, including crucial roadways linking to the capital, Nairobi.
By 11 pm, segments of the Nairobi Expressway were submerged to knee-level, prompting rerouting of vehicles by toll road personnel, as evidenced by online videos shared by Kenyan residents.
Among the affected areas were South C and Ruai, where neighborhoods endured partial inundation throughout the night. In Ruai particularly, families found themselves exposed to the elements as floodwaters breached their residences.
Simultaneously, the relentless rain gave rise to isolated storms, resulting in the toppling of trees, notably along Dennis Pritt Road in Kilimani.
According to the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD), the inclement weather is anticipated to persist until Wednesday, with heavy rainfall forecasted across most regions of the country.
KMD further forecasts light morning showers, followed by intense afternoon downpours accompanied by thunderstorms. Conversely, the Northeastern region is expected to remain predominantly sunny and dry.
Temperature-wise, variations are expected, with lows reaching 8 degrees Celsius and highs soaring up to 40 degrees Celsius across different parts of the nation.
