The Ministry of Health has urged Kenyans to avoid taking alcohol from unknown sources this festive season.

In a statement today, the ministry said that this will safeguard people from potential health  risks.

“Stay safe during this festive season! Protect your health by avoiding alcohol from unknown sources to minimize potential risks,” the statement read in part.

The Ministry also urged Kenyans to consume meat that has been inspected by certified officers and to avoid consuming meat from dead animals or birds.

“Cook all food thoroughly and consume while hot. Cover and reheat leftovers before eating,” MOH said.

This comes days after the Ministry announced the deployment of a multiagency enforcement team that will work to enforce regulations related to substance abuse during this festive season.

It urged Kenyans to support this campaign by giving out information, promoting responsible behavior, and raising awareness during the festive season.

“Multi-agency enforcement teams coordinated by the Ministry of Health will diligently work to enforce existing legislation and regulations related to substance abuse,” Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni said.

Furthermore, the ministry calls upon the media, civil society organizations, and the public to support these initiatives by disseminating information, raising awareness, and promoting responsible behavior throughout the festive season.

The ministry has recently raised alarm over the increased uptake of drugs this holiday season. MOH said the proliferation of novel nicotine and emerging products presents a new challenge in the fight against substance abuse.

“Deceptive marketing tactics, especially those targeting vulnerable populations, require vigilance and proactive efforts to shield our citizens from potential harm,” the ministry said.
