Bamburi Cement PLC has bolstered its leadership team with the recent addition of Tito David Koros as a Non-Executive Director, effective December 7, 2023. This appointment follows the resignation of Austin A. O. Ouko, who stepped down from the position of Non-Executive Director on November 30, 2023.

In his role as Non-Executive Director, Koros will provide crucial advisory insights and strategic guidance to the board, without assuming executive responsibilities. His extensive professional background, particularly as the former Managing Trustee/Chief Executive Officer at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), showcases his seasoned leadership in financial, investment, and organizational domains.

Koros’s previous experience includes notable leadership roles, such as Chief Executive Officer of the Local Authorities Provident Fund (LAPFUND), where he managed retirement funds for county government and water company employees. His investment management journey encompasses roles at institutions like Stanbic Investment Management (EA) Services Limited, CFC Financial Services, the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA), and the Kenya Tourist Development Corporation (KTDC).

Academically, Koros holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy Management from Strathmore University, a professional certification in Public Policy Management from New York University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Nairobi. His commitment to continuous learning and leadership development is evident through participation in prestigious programs such as the Global Leadership Programme at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) at the University of Pretoria.

Dr. John P.N Simba, Chairman of the Bamburi Cement Plc Board, expressed confidence in Koros’s multifaceted capabilities, covering financial acumen, investment proficiency, people leadership, and organizational change. This strategic appointment aims to leverage Koros’s expertise to propel Bamburi Cement Plc’s growth and strategic initiatives.

The departure of Austin A. O. Ouko, a seasoned professional with over a decade of experience in transactional, corporate, and commercial law, including his tenure as a Non-Executive Director, marks a transition within the company’s board. Ouko’s academic accomplishments, including a Master of Science of Law (JSM) from Stanford University Law School and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from the University of Nairobi, significantly contributed to the governance and legal aspects of the company’s operations.

Ouko’s affiliations as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators-UK, and a Certified Public Secretary-Kenya, along with his accreditation as a Governance Auditor with the Institute of Certified Secretaries, Kenya, reflect his commitment to legal excellence and governance principles.

With the appointment of Tito David Koros, Bamburi Cement Plc enters a new phase, aiming to leverage his expertise and leadership to drive strategic growth initiatives and maintain its position as a leader in Kenya’s cement and related products industry.
